The Swiss Young Naturalists' Tournament (SYNT) is a Swiss competition held in English, where science enthusiasts aged 12 to 16 from anywhere in Switzerland can participate. In a preparatory phase they carry out a small research project, whose results are presented and defended at the actual tournament.

The International Young Naturalists' Tournament (IYNT) is the international counterpart of the national competition. Teams from all over the world compete against each other and a diverse social program promotes social contact of members from different teams.

The seventh Swiss Young Physicists Tournament was held on the 18th of March in Zurich. 30 students made the journey to the MNG Rämibühl to present the projects they worked on for the past few months, recieving critique from other students and defending their work. This year was had especially high level Reports and Oppositions, as one can see from how close the results (see below) are. Congratulations to Colorless Enzymes for second place and Breaking Bonds for winning the tournament and to everyone else for doing such a great job with their presentations.

The SYNT 2023 will take place at the MNG Rämibühl on the 18th of March 2023.

Register now!

Online registration will now stay open until the 31st of December. Students can either sign up as an individual or in a team of two. When signing up as a team please note that each team must have a solution to two different SYNT problems and choose to participate in the same language. A workshop for preparation will be offered to the students (although only for participants with the problems 1, 2, 6, 11, 12, 16). Participation is free to both the tournament and the workshop.

On the 12th of March, the sixth Swiss Young Naturlaists' Tournament was held at the MNG Rämibühl in Zurich. After having to switch to a virtual competition last year, we are happy that we could host a tournament in the usual format. This allowed the students to present their work directly to the jury and the audience.

A total of ten teams participated at this year's SYNT. Over the past months, the students showed great dedication in preparing for the tournament. The students were supported by an online coaching format that helped them with the planning and evaluation of their experiments. Given the uncertainty of the past months, we are delighted that we can look back on a highly successful tournament.

On the 12th of March SYNT 2022 will take place in person at MNG Rämibühl (Rämistrasse 58, 8001 Zürich).

We are very excited about the sixth SYNT and look forward to seeing the students work. 

The most important information can be found here:

  • Starting from 8:30 welcome coffee will be served
  • All participants have to be there at 9:00 latest, to complete registration
  • The welcome ceremony starts at 9:15

Additionally, individual students are strongly advised to be open to participating in both languages, otherwise, it will be unlikely that their registration will be successful.
